Fitness Ball Size
Are you shopping for a fitness
ball? Don't be lead to believe that one size fits all...
Not with fitness balls.
Before you begin your fitness
ball workout you want to make sure you have a ball that's
appropriate for your height, weight and any medical conditions that you
may have.
How to do that? There are several
approaches...
Height:
When sitting on your
ball you should be able to place your feet flat on the floor with your
hips and knees in a 90 degree angle to one another. Your
pelvis, shoulder and head should all be in line, without a need to lean
in any one direction for balance.
Weight:
The greater your body
weight the more the ball will compress. If your weight is above average
you may want to consider a slightly larger ball.
Medical
condition: Certain
medical conditions may prohibit you from using a fitness ball, while
other conditions may make it necessary for you to limit your exercise.
Often times when exercise is modified, a basic fitness ball
can still be used. If a basic ball isn't appropriate, there
are special needs exercise balls which your health care provider can
talk with you about.
Don't know where to find a fitness ball? Try your
local Wal-Mart or Target, or a fitness equipment store. I've even seen
them sold a Barnes and Noble bookstore. No matter where you purchase
one, just make sure that you've selected the proper size.
