Fitness Ball Size

Are you shopping for a fitness ball? Don't be lead to believe that one size fits all...

Fitness BallNot with fitness balls. Before you begin your fitness ball workout you want to make sure you have a ball that is sized appropriate for your...

...height, weight and medical conditions that you may have. How do you do that?

According to advice that I have been given, there are several approaches...

Height: When sitting on your ball you should be able to place your feet flat on the floor with your hips and knees in a 90 degree angle to one another. Your pelvis, shoulder and head should all be in line, without a need to lean in any one direction for balance.

Weight: The greater your body weight the more the ball will compress. If your weight is above average you may want to consider a slightly larger ball.

Medical condition: Certain medical conditions may prohibit you from using a fitness ball, while other conditions may make it necessary for you to limit your exercise. Often times when exercise is modified, a basic fitness ball can still be used. If a basic ball isn't appropriate, there are special needs exercise balls which your health care provider can talk with you about.

Don't know where to find a fitness ball?

You can try a local Wal-Mart or Target, or a fitness equipment store. I've even seen them sold a Barnes and Noble bookstore. No matter where you purchase one, just make sure that you've selected the proper size.
