Health Benefit of Yoga
The
health benefit of yoga is intended for the body, the mind and the
spirit...
... as yoga
exercise combines intricate physical
postures,
deep breathing exercises, and balances, with relaxation and meditation.
These
fundamental principles of yoga combine in
the perfect discipline to relax and harmonize the mind and the
body.
Thus, the
tremendous
overall health benefits of yoga.
After
recently adding yoga
exercise
to my workout routine
I was amazed at how much relief I started getting from aches and pains
- almost immediate relief. This reinforces what I've found over and
over, that something as simple as a few muscle stretches, on a regular
basis, can provide tremendous pain relief. And yes, I do benefit from
its calming effect, as well.
What are some of the other benefits of yoga? How
about using...
Because some of the fundamental principles of yoga
are relaxation and
meditation it is easy to understand the role that it plays
in stress reduction,
which can lead to other emotional and physical improvements, such as
better quality of sleep
and feeling more fit and youthful.
However,
what surprises a lot of people is when their health care provider
recommends yoga
exercise
for weight loss.
Why is weight
loss considered a health benefit of yoga?
Rather than building muscle, yoga builds muscle
tone and because yoga helps maintain a balanced metabolism, it also
helps to regulate weight, thus providing many people with the weight
loss health benefit of yoga. Additionally, yoga stretches muscles,
causing elimination of fat around the cells, which reduces cellulite.
Should I try Yoga Workouts at Home?
Sure, you can do yoga
workouts
at home. With the
help of a good yoga workout video, or an illustrated yoga book, you
should not have any trouble getting started. Outfit yourself in
comfortable, stretchable clothing that fits snugly enough that it won't
interfere with some of your more intricate moves, get yourself a good
yoga mat, or you can try a blanket yoga, as used in some practices.
Whatever type of class you join, don't be
intimidated! Trust me, you'll find people of all levels in
the class
and a good instructor should guide you in good technique, rather than
push you to uncomfortable limits. Learning yoga
should be
fun! You may also want to give Pilates
a try...
