Knee Pain Exercise
Ouch!
You've hurt your knee and the doctor recommended some
knee exercises! That's right - knee stretching and
knee strengthening exercises may be what is needed to
increase
mobility
in your knees again. And, not only that...
Stabilizing the knee
joint through exercise that strengthens the muscles and
ligaments which surround it may help confine the pain to just your
knee.
Since it's common to alter the way we walk when we have a
knee injury, it is not uncommon for pains to also begin to show up in
our
hips, back, legs, or feet.
How do know which knee exercise is right for you?
Following an injury, or knee surgery, your doctor will probably
suggest that you work
with a physical therapist, at least for a short period of
time. A trained professional
can best provide you with a set of exercises tailored for your specific
needs. Your routine will likely include knee pain exercises
that can be done at home, as well as others which will require exercise
equipment, such as a treadmill, a weight machine or an exercise bicycle.
A knee rehabilitation exercise program often
targets muscles in the back of the thigh - the hamstring muscles, and
the
muscles on the front of the thigh - the quadriceps, and may also
include exercises for the hips, calf and ankle. Why work so many muscle
groups?
Because our body functions as a whole, each muscle, joint and
ligament is dependent on the strength of another for optimal support.
Arthritis Knee Exercise
Are you considering arthritis knee exercise
to relieve pain?
Before you begin any gout, rheumatoid or
osteoarthritis knee exercise talk first with your doctor. Although
arthritis is one of the most common causes of
knee pain, don't
assume that it is the cause of yours.
Even when arthritis is present, the
doctor may initially suggest rest and leg elevation, along with ice therapy,
particularly if pain was caused by a recent arthritic flare-up.
Knee Injury Exercises
The
knee is especially susceptible to damage
during athletic activities AND while exercising. If you have been
injured - don't risk further injury. Prior to undertaking any
knee pain exercise, consult with your doctor and let them make
treatment recommendations based on your particular situation.
Initially following a knee injury the
recommendation may be for nothing more than ice therapy, along with
leg elevation and resting. Often, exercise is not appropriate
until after some
of the swelling and pain have subsided.
Eliminating Knee PAIN Exercise
If you're lucky
enough, with some preventative exercise
and other knee pain
prevention
measures, you may be able to eliminate the need for knee PAIN exercises.
An ounce of
prevention can go a long way
if you...
And, another preventative measure that should not
be overlooked, avoid painful
foot problems
by wearing appropriate footwear. How you walk has a tremendous
impact on your knees and the rest of the body!
