Low Back Pain Reasons
You may not have encountered it yet, but
statistics indicate that a majority of people will experience some type
of lower back pain during their lifetime. Why is this so, and
what are some of the low
back pain
reasons?
As I have been told by the medical doctors, chiropractors
and physical therapists, who have helped me treat my own lower back
pain problems...
...there are a variety of causes for low back
pain -
ranging from very mild lower back
muscle spasms
- to much more serious medical
conditions.
This being the case...
...it is very important to have a medical
professional
evaluate your symptoms
of lower back problems and advise you on proper back pain treatment
and therapy. And to do so in a timely manner, so as to keep
lower back pain from radiating into middle back, or upper back pain.
Causes for Lower Back Pain
Although symptoms of lower back problems can occur
at any
age, they are often more prevalent as people age - when muscle
elasticity and muscle tone begin to decrease.
Low back
spasms, a strain, or sprain, resulting from over stretching,
are not
unusual as aging back muscles
become more vulnerable to damage. But
many
other causes for low back pain exist, as well.
According to the National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), in addition to
the most common causes of lower back pain...
...trauma or injury
to
the lower back - other causes of lower back pain include...
- Ruptured disc or bulging disc
- Bone lesions
- Nerve compression and nerve irritation
- Degenerative disc disease
- Osteoarthritis
- Bone diseases
- Viral infections
- Disc and join irritation
- Congenital abnormalities in the spine
Additionally, obesity, smoking, weight gain during
pregnancy, and poor physical condition can be factors in low back pain.
Other low back pain reasons may simply be the
buildup of scar tissue from repeated injury to the lower back, or...
...poor
posture
(standing, sleeping AND sitting
posture).
More Serious Low Back Pain Symptoms
People should be aware that low back pain reasons
can include serious
medical conditions. The NINDS advises that anyone with low
back pain, and symptoms that include...
- Fever
- Loss of bowel or bladder control
- Pain when coughing
- Progressive weakness in legs
...consult a doctor immediately. A
pinched nerve, or other condition that needs professional attention,
may be involved.
In addition, the NINDS states that people with
diabetes
may have severe back pain, or pain radiating down the leg - a condition
related to
neuropathy.
And of course, if you have sudden low back pain
that is a sharp pain, or prolonged pain, my advice...
...do not play doctor. See a medical
professional and let them determine your low back pain reasons
