Lower back and Neck Pain Relief with Buttocks Exercise

by Phil
(United Kingdom)

I would like to share an experience I have had with helping to solve my neck and back problems.

I actually broke several bones in my neck, transverse processes, when I was about ten years old and was playing with my Dad's chest expanders. I let go of one end and - WHACK - that was the end those bones.

Thankfully, I didn't seem to have any long term effect but now that I am older - in my 50s -I have started to find that my neck clicks a lot and referred pain to my teeth, arms and also to my back happens more and more. It can cause severe headaches and a feeling that my head really isn't where it should be. Lately, very mild problems with walking has occurred.

To cut a long story short, after a long flight - 11 hours and then 5 hours my neck and back were really playing up - affecting my vision (blurred in the peripheral of my left eye) and actual uncontrollable twitching - especially when lying down. I started to do very gentle stretching exercises - 30 touch my toes (actually I can't!)...

...and then I started to work on a few exercises from a book I found on Amazon called, Butt Perfect - it is actually designed to tone the butt but I found the exercises to be gentle and easy to do. And I figured if it helps the butt it must help the lower back.

I am doing about 5 minutes every other day and find an improvement after 10 days. I'm sure it won't work for everyone but for me my neck has stopped clicking and my back feels a little stronger. I will keep going and see what happens.

Hi Phil, Thank you for sharing your story! It doesn't seem fair that you had the pain of broken transverse processes as a child and now, years later, have to deal with further discomfort.

Unfortunately, similar scenarios happen often.

I have talked with countless numbers of people - in their 40's, 50's, 60's and well beyond - who suffered injuries when they were young and as they age are having considerable problems - particularly with chronic arthritis.

Fortunately you have found exercises that seem to help. I find it interesting that you found lower back and neck pain relief with buttocks exercise, but then again...

...each time I have visited a physical therapist for my own back pain, I have been surprised at the wide range of exercises that have been prescribed.

It is remarkable how connected each region of the body is to its overall function, and how quickly a malfunction in one area can transfer itself to another.

I am NOT a health care professional and cannot advise you from a medical perspective. However, you mention that recent symptoms include severe headaches.

I hope you have not dismissed the idea of talking to a qualified practitioner about the headaches and your other symptoms. Their assessment could be very important in determining the exact cause of your troubles, and perhaps save you much agony in years to come.

Thank you again for sharing your story about lower back and neck pain relief with buttocks exercise. I am sure that other people reading it will be motivated to know that natural pain relief can happen, sometimes in the most unsuspecting ways.

By the way... Thanks also for mentioning that your neck break was transverse processes. I have previously come across the term but had forgotten its meaning. I looked it up on Wikipedia.com and About.com and now know that...

...transverse processes are protrusions that extend from both sides of each vertebra, and connect to the spinal muscles.

I wish you much continued success with your lower back and neck pain relief!

For anyone interested in the book Butt Perfect from Amazon...

Best regards,
Liz
