Treatment for Muscle Spasm
It certainly would be
great if there was a
treatment for muscle spasm that could forever prevent them
from
recurring.
Well, although there is not a cure for most
ordinary muscle contractions, there are certain things that may help
control them, and help provide
pain relief when they do occur
Relieving Muscle Cramps
Painful muscle spasms can occur in most areas of
the body...
...affecting one or more muscles in a particular region.
Muscle
spasms causes
are various in nature. On the other hand, muscle spasms symptoms
are very similar. If you have ever
had...
...leg muscle spasms, a neck muscle spasm, a
facial
muscle spasm, abdominal muscle spasms, lower back muscle spasms
or a foot spasm...
...you certainly know how quickly they can occur
and how helpless you feel over them.
I have found that in many instances muscle spasm
treatment can be as simple as relaxing
the muscle, and surrounding muscles - as best I can - and then doing
gentle stretch
exercise.
But, when muscle relaxation and stretching have
not worked, I will often "knead" the muscle, or muscles, using my own massage therapy
techniques.
And for really stubborn and painful muscle cramps, I visit my
chiropractor.
Even after muscle cramps or spasms
have subsided, there can often be residual soreness in the area.
For this, I use ice therapy, continue to
stretch, and focus
on NOT tensing the muscle. After all....
Strained and tensed muscles are some of the
primary causes of muscle cramps.
Treatment for Muscle Cramps at Night
If you have ever been awakened from the soundest
of sleeps by night muscle spasms, you know how frightening and painful
they can be.
These nocturnal
cramps, when occurring as a calf muscle cramp or foot
cramp, can easily be caused by the previous day's activities, such as
walking for long periods on hard pavement, or wearing inappropriate
footwear.
Prevent and relieve muscle cramps at night by...
...drinking plenty of fluids, stretching leg and
feet muscles before bedtime, allowing adequate, unencumbered space for
your feet, as you sleep,
and wearing sensible footwear during the day.
