Ways to Relieve Stress with Fun

Could your back pain be one of the physical symptoms of stress? According to many reports, it certainly can. Your challenge is to find FUN ways to relieve stress, thereby reducing the tension that stress causes in the back muscles, and the neck and shoulder muscles.

Ways to Relieve Stress What's your favorite fun activity?
Is it something you can do often and is it a relaxing way to reduce stress?

If so, great. Otherwise, in order to avoid a stress related health problem, you may need to add more FUN to your life.

How to Create Fun Ways to Relieve Stress

Since stress is caused by both psychological and physical events, it's often best treated by a combination of activities that are good for the mind AND the body.

De-stress alone, or with others. The key is to find an activity which can distract you from the worries and the negative thoughts that for many people are the main causes of stress.

Ready to let the child in you come out to play?

Laughter therapy: Yes, it's true. According to some reports, laughter IS the best medicine, not only for physical fitness, but for emotional health as well.

Stress reduction exercises: Not to be overlooked are the health benefits of exercise. When stressed, either emotionally or physically, our muscles tend to tighten. Eventually, this can lead to aches and pains, particularly in the back, neck and shoulders.

The best remedy for this may be stress relieving exercises. But, be sure to start off slowly - tensed muscles need gentle stretch exercise before beginning a more vigorous workout.

Office chair exercise: Need to fight off the affects of poor sitting posture and work stress?

Not only are office exercises good for reducing physical fatigue, and the associated stiff neck and back pain, but they are perfect for stress management in the workplace.

Go fly a kite: When was the last time you watched a kite soar, or chased it through the field, or down a beach? Get playful - grab your Frisbee too!

Board games: What about those board games you used to play as a kid? They may be even more fun now that you're grown up and the adults won't be able to get away with cheating behind your back.

Don't have someone to play with? Try some online stress reliever games - either play by yourself or with partners from across the globe.

Sports: Get out and get active! Tennis, skiing, golf, basketball, softball, volleyball, ping pong - the list goes on and on. And, don't let the cold weather stop you from outdoor activity. Cold air only adds to the challenge, making you feel that much more accomplished after your venture out.

Throw a party: Gathering with friends can be one of the best ways to relieve stress.

Throw a de-stress affair - but nothing that requires much planning. After all, why add to your stress. Invite a few friends, have them bring snacks and what they like to drink, and the rest of the night will take care of itself.

Visit a zoo: You don't often see animals stressed out. Observing them as they relax, and how content they are just "being", can help teach us how to be more at peace with our own world.

Volunteer: Volunteering to help those that are less fortunate can do wonders in putting things into perspective. Our own troubles usually don't seem quite as bad when we see what less fortunate people have to endure. And, in your quest to find ways to relieve stress, you may learn valuable techniques from these people.

Get artsy: Do you wish you could draw, or paint? Well, you can. You may not produce a museum piece, but you certainly can play around and pretend that your work will make it there someday.

Year-round gardening: No need to stop gardening once the winter comes. Grow some flowers and herbs indoors. You won't get the same exercise as you would with your outdoor garden, but you'll be able to have fun and add some nice color to your rooms.

Play music or create your own: Download a few of your favorites and either listen or have your own sing-along - don't be afraid to belt out the tunes. Using your vocal cords can be calming and therapeutic, so don't be afraid to belt out some tunes.

Is there an instrument you've always wanted to try out? Head off to a second-hand music store and see if you can get a deal on one.

Plan a mini vacation: A vacation doesn't need to last several days, or even overnight. Yes, with the right mindset there are ways to relieve stress with a short afternoon vacation.

Take a scenic drive, stopping along the way for a peaceful picnic, or head off to a nearby town for lunch, or an early dinner. Create your own discovery vacation by boarding the bus or train for a new destination - just don't forget to bring some snacks, in case you don't find what you're looking for when you get to where you're going!

Stress relief toys: Little kids games for the big kid. It may sound silly, but silly may be just what you need to cheer yourself up. And what could be sillier than a stress reducer game of hop-scotch, or jacks? Have you played with silly putty lately, which can actually have a therapeutic effect as you mold and shape the clay?

You may find some great ways to relieve stress right in the toy section at your local Wal-Mart or Target!

Comedy, cartoon television and the movies: De-stress with humor. Have a few late night laughs with the comedy channel, or it just might be that the cartoons of your childhood can still generate a laugh, or two. Rent a good funny movie, or a thriller - just not something that will get you into a negative mindset. Remember, you're trying to find FUN ways to relieve stress!

Chill out: How long has it been since you've tried doing nothing? Nothing at all. It may take some practice, but once you've got it mastered, doing absolutely nothing can sure be addicting, and one of the best ways to relieve stress.

Home spa treatments: You don't need to pay big money to get the effects of a spa treatment - create your own stress relief spa right at home.
